Buffon Give Retirement Indication at the End of This Season
Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon does not hide the possibility that he will end his career at the end of the 2017-2018 season. This Bianconeri captain also promised to give the best so they can repeat the achievements of recent years.
Buffon is now 39 years old. His contract with Juventus will also end in June 2018 or just one more season left.
If you look at the ability and consistent appearance, Buffon is still very calculated as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. But the former Parma goalkeeper is not likely to retire soon.
“Yes, this year could be the last for me and all this really thrilled me,” said the owner of 169 caps with Gli Azzurri to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“This season will be very special, but I want to face it even better to help Juventus repeat such wonderful achievements over the past few years,” he said.
Buffon’s speech seems to reinforce what he once said some time ago that the 2018 World Cup in Russia will be a cover of his work on the gridiron. Buffon plans to hang up after defending the Italian national team at the grand four-year tournament.
Juventus have already taken steps to anticipate Buffon’s plans to retire. In the transfer market this summer, the Great Lady brought new goalkeeper from Arsenal, Wojciech Szczesny, projected by coach Massimiliano Allegri as a competitor and substitute Buffon.
